Privacy Policy
Last updated: 11 May 2026
1. Who we are
SKIPIL CV ("we", "us", "our") provides an online service for AI-assisted resume tailoring, cover letter generation, and related features such as keyword extraction and ATS-style analysis ("the Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information when you use the Service.
2. Information we collect
We may process the following categories of information:
- Account data: such as email address and authentication identifiers when you create or sign in to an account (handled by our authentication provider).
- Content you submit: resumes, cover letters, job descriptions, prompts, and files you upload or paste so we can provide the Service. This may include professional and employment-related personal data.
- Usage and licensing data: for example token or entitlement usage, license linkage, and records needed to enforce access and billing.
- Technical and security data: IP address, device and browser type, approximate location derived from IP, timestamps, cookies or similar technologies, and diagnostic data when errors occur.
- Data stored on your device: certain features (such as builder drafts and per-session activity in your browser) may be stored only in your device's storage (e.g. localStorage) and not sent to our servers unless you explicitly use a feature that uploads content.
- Encrypted cloud backup (optional): if you choose "Save to Cloud", you are the only person who can access that backup: we encrypt your workspace in your browser with a passphrase you set, then store only the ciphertext in our file storage. We do not read or access your resume information in that encrypted cloud backup. We cannot read the contents without your passphrase, and we cannot recover or reset your passphrase. If you lose it, the encrypted cloud copy cannot be decrypted; a local copy in your browser may still exist until you clear site data.
Please do not submit special categories of data or highly sensitive identifiers (for example government ID numbers, health information, or financial account details) unless you are comfortable with that risk and it is truly necessary; such data is not required to use the Service.
3. How we use your information
We use personal information to:
- Provide, operate, and improve the Service
- Authenticate you and maintain your session
- Process purchases and manage licenses or entitlements
- Send service-related communications (for example, when you request a copy of your documents by email)
- Detect abuse, enforce our terms, and protect security
- Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests
AI features send the content needed for each request to our AI provider so the model can generate or analyse output. You should review AI-generated content before relying on it.
4. Legal bases (UK / EEA)
Where UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies, we rely on appropriate legal bases such as: performing our contract with you; legitimate interests in operating and securing the Service (balanced against your rights); compliance with legal obligations; and, where required, your consent (for example for non-essential cookies or marketing, if we use them).
5. Sharing and subprocessors
We use trusted third-party services that process data on our behalf. Depending on how you use the Service, categories of providers may include:
- Hosting, infrastructure, and database providers
- Authentication and identity services
- Payment and subscription or licensing platforms
- AI and machine-learning providers that process the content you submit to deliver tailoring, generation, and analysis features
- Email and messaging delivery services
- Diagnostics, security, and reliability tooling (e.g. error reporting)
- Advertising or analytics partners, only where we use them; they may set cookies or use similar technologies as described in their own policies
We choose providers with appropriate safeguards and limit what we share to what they need to perform their role. You may contact us for more detail about how we use processors, subject to security and confidentiality constraints.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, or in connection with a business transfer (for example a merger), subject to applicable law.
6. International transfers
Our providers may process data in countries other than your own. Where we transfer personal data from the UK or EEA to countries not recognised as providing adequate protection, we use appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) where required by law.
7. Retention
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above, including legal, accounting, and security requirements. Retention periods depend on the type of data and our relationship with you. You may request deletion of your account or certain data where applicable law allows.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, to data portability, and to object to certain processing. You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. To exercise these rights, contact us using the details below. We may need to verify your identity before responding.
9. Children
The Service is not intended for users under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
10. Cookies and similar technologies
We and our providers may use cookies and similar technologies for authentication, preferences, security, analytics, and (if enabled) advertising. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling some cookies may affect how the Service works.
The resume builder may set a first-party cookie (skipil_builder_sid) so opening the site root can send you to your last active application workspace without storing resume content in that cookie.
11. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy on this page and update the "Last updated" date. Material changes may be communicated through the Service or by email where appropriate.
12. Contact
For privacy questions or requests, contact us at hi@skipil.com. You may also review our Terms and Conditions.
